Asset locators must register with the State Treasurer and post a performance bond of at least $10,000; claims require a notarized Notice to Claimant.
Fee Cap
10% cap — agreements with compensation above 10% of the property's value are unenforceable (Treasurer rules under 27 V.S.A. ch. 18).
Waiting Period
Treasurer registration and claim rules control; payments go to the owner, never the locator.
